CSI losing focus pertinence in emerging economies

CSI has lost significance in the South African media market as political debate regarding job creation and service delivery has taken prominence; the issue also accrued a dearth of focus in Chinese media.

IT industry regaining prominence

In comparison with the Banking and Automotive industries, the IT industry dominated coverage in the early 2000s with the burst of the Dot-Com bubble. IT appears to be regaining headway after Banking took centre stage due to the financial crisis.

Banking image less negative in microfinance regions

Volume of coverage by region banking industry, 1/2010 – 4/2011.
The bulk of the coverage of the banking industry focuses on events in the developed world; however, this coverage is substantially negative. Coverage of the industry in regions where microfinance is more likely to be active – Africa, Asia and South America – is more positive on balance.

Inflationary fears compound operational challenges

Although analysts speculated that 2011 would be the year for M&As in Asia following a leap in the value of transactions in 2010, earnings came under pressure due to rising input costs, adding further pressure on an already volatile operating environment.

Job conditions take a backseat to job creation

Job creation as a part of Sustainability advocacy has featured more strongly on the corporate agenda in 2011. However, debate around actual job conditions have at the same time dropped to its lowest level yet.
